Extension Housing Seal
REMOVAL PROCEDURE^ Tool Required:
- J 42066 Rear Hub Holding Tool
- J 42080 Case Extension Seal Installer
1. Remove the transmission mount.
2. Remove the propeller shaft coupling bolts.
3. Remove the propeller shaft coupling from flange. Use a screwdriver to pry propeller shaft coupling away from flange.
4. Use J 42066 Rear Hub Holding Tool in order to install onto drive flange.
5. Remove the drive flange nut using J 42066 Rear Hub Holding Tool.
6. Use J 42066 Rear Hub Holding Tool in order to remove the drive flange nut. Use J 42066 Rear Hub Holding Tool in order to hold drive flange while using a 30 mm deepwell socket.
7. Remove the drive flange from transmission output shaft.
8. Remove the catalytic converter support bracket bolts (1) and bracket.
9. Remove the transmission speed sensor electrical connector.
10. Remove the transmission speed sensor bolt and sensor with seal. Use hand pressure to twist sensor while pulling outward. Do not pry on sensor.
11. Remove rear oxygen sensor harness clips form case extension.
12. Remove the case extension gasket (4).
13. Remove the speed sensor ring (1) if necessary. Pry out with screwdriver.
14. Remove the bearing (2) from case extension (3) if necessary. Use a press and a suitable size spacer to press bearing out from rear of case extension.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the bearing (2) to case extension (3) if removed. Press the bearing in from rear of case extension.
2. Use a J 42080 Case Extension Seal Installer in order to install the seal to case extension if removed.
3. Install a speed sensor ring (1) if removed.
4. Install a case extension gasket (4).
5. Install a case extension and bolts.
NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Tighten the bolts to 32 Nm (23 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the rear oxygen sensor harness clips to extension housing.
7. Install the transmission speed sensor with seal and bolt.
- Tighten the bolts to 9 Nm (78 inch lbs.).
8. Install the transmission speed sensor electrical connector.
9. Install the catalytic converter support bracket and bolts (1).
- Tighten the bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
10. Install the drive flange to transmission output shaft.
11. Use J 42066 Rear Hub Holding Tool in order to install onto driver flange.
12. Use J 42066 Rear Hub Holding Tool in order to install the rive flange nut.
- Use a new service replacement nut.
- Use J 42066 Rear Hub Holding Tool in order to hold the driver flange nut while using a 30 mm deepwell socket.
- Tighten the nut to 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.).
13. Install the propeller shaft coupling to flange.
14. Install the propeller shaft coupling bolts.
- Tighten the propeller shaft coupling bolts to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.).
15. Install the transmission mount.
16. Inspect and adjust the transmission fluid level.
