Road Sensing Suspension (RSS)

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The RSS module calibrations are stored in the Electronically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM). The RSS module performs internal tests on the EEPROM and will indicate if any programming faults (checksum errors) are current.

CODE RS0051 WILL SET WHEN
A new RSS service module has not been calibrated or when an internal programming malfunction (checksum error) is detected.

ACTION TAKEN
Depending upon which internal functions are affected by suspect calibration data, the RSS module will take one of three sets of actions. If the fault condition allows continued operation, the system will either assume Electronic Leveling Control (ECL) default trim values or result in degraded steering sensor operation. Otherwise, the damper solenoid valves are switched to the firm position (off) and the ELC and SSS functions are disabled. In either case, the RSS module will set the fault code and turn on the "SERVICE RIDE CONTROL" message.

CODE RS0051 WILL GO "HISTORY" WHEN
No internal programming malfunctions (checksum errors) are detected by the RSS module or when the RSS module is properly programmed.

NOTES ON FAULT TREE
1. After recalibrating the RSS module using a Scan Tool, always perform the Steering Autocenter Adjustment Steering and the ELC Trim Height Adjustment Suspension Control ( Automatic - Electronic ) procedures before proceeding to other steps in the diagnostic procedure.
2. Service replacement modules will have a code RS0051 stored in memory when shipped. After replacement of a RSS module, perform the RSS Control Module Calibration, Suspension Control Module Steering Autocenter Adjustment, Steering and ELC Trim Height Adjustment procedures. IMPORTANT
^ DO NOT BACKPROBE SENSORS, DAMPERS, ELC CONNECTORS, OR SSS CONNECTORS.
^ WHEN ALL DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIRS ARE COMPLETE, CLEAR CODES AND VERIFY OPERATION.
