Water Pump Replacement
Removal Procedure
Tools Required
- J 38816-1A Coolant Pump Remover/Installer
1. Drain the coolant.
2. Disconnect the engine torque strut. Position that strut out of the way.
3. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
4. Remove the coolant pump belt cover.
5. Remove the coolant pump drive belt.
6. Remove the bypass hose.
7. Disconnect the radiator outlet hose from the thermostat housing.
8. Remove the coolant pump cover.
9. Using the J 38816-1A, turn the pump clockwise in order to remove the pump from the housing.
10. Remove the coolant pump from the vehicle.
11. Clean the coolant pump and the sealing surfaces of the pump cover.
Installation Procedure
Tools Required
- J 38816-1A Coolant Pump Remover/Installer
1. In order to install the coolant pump, use the J 38816-1A. Turn the J 38816-1A counterclockwise.
Tighten
Tighten the coolant pump to 100 Nm (73 lb ft).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
2. Install the coolant pump cover.
3. Install the 4 pump cover housing bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the housing bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
4. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the thermostat housing.
5. Install the bypass hose.
6. Install the coolant pump drive belt.
7. Install the coolant pump belt cover.
8. Install the air cleaner assembly.
9. Install the engine torque strut.
10. Refill the coolant.
