DTC RS0033 MVSA Actuator Output Current Fault (Part 1 Of 2):

TEST CONDITIONS:
The CVRSS control module uses an H-bridge transistor configuration to provide bi-directional current control to the MSVA actuator over a range of -3.0 to +3.0 amperes. The H-bridge circuit is capable of detecting shorts to battery or ground, as well as load shorts and opens. Additionally, the CVRSS control module continually monitors the amount of current which is delivered to the MSVA actuator and compares it to the desired level.

FAULT CONDITIONS:
If the CVRSS control module detects a fault condition with the MSVA actuator outputs, or if the measured and desired actuator current levels differ by more than 0.5 amperes for five seconds consecutively, the outputs are disabled. At the conclusion of a 30-second retry interval, the outputs are re-enabled. If a fault condition is again detected, the outputs are disabled for the remainder of the ignition cycle, and a corresponding fault code is set.

ACTION TAKEN:
Disable the MSVA outputs by commanding zero amperes. Set fault code and turn on the "SERVICE RIDE CONTROL" message.

DESCRIPTION:
The CVRSS control module continually monitors the interface with the MSVA actuator for the presence of several fault conditions and compares the actual (measured) and desired current levels If a hardware fault condition is detected, or if the measured and desired current levels differ by more than 0 5 amperes for five seconds continually, the MSVA outputs are disable . At the conclusion of a 30-second retry interval the outputs are re-enabled. If a fault condition is again detected, the outputs are disabled for the remainder of the, ignition cycle and a corresponding fault code is set. Recovery is attempted only after ignition is cycled off and on.

Note that the MSVA Output Current Fault usually relates to one or more hardware fault . Accordingly, if other MSVA fault codes are also present, consult the fault trees for those faults first.

NOTES ON FAULT TREE
1. Refer to Intermittents.
2. Replace steering system fluid filter whenever the MSVA steering assist actuator is replaced.
3. Clear codes. Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
