CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION

DTC IP 2016 will set if the ignition is "ON" and the IPC is not able to exchange data with the PCM.

ACTION TAKEN (BY IPC)

The IPC will turn on the Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) regardless of Park/Neutral switch position. Coolant temperature will be displayed as if selected on the DIC, the fuel data panel displays will read "--", the cooling fans will be commanded to high speed, and no PCM diagnostic information will be available for display. The DIC will display "THEFT SYSTEM PROBLEM CAR MAY NOT RESTART" Also, the DIC will display "LOW OIL PRESSURE - STOP ENGINE" at key "ON" with engine not running.

DTC IP 2016 will always be current in conjunction with DTC IP 2750 (PASS-Key(R) II Data Communication Failure). In most cases the engine will not start if both of these codes are current. If Class 2 communications are lost after the engine has been started but before the key is transitioned to LOCK, the PCM has a "Limp-Home" mode which will allow starting of the vehicle.

DTC CHART TEST DESCRIPTION

Test numbers refer to circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.

1. This test ensures that the Powertrain Control Module is functioning normally outside of the loss of serial communication.

2. This test checks for an open between the PCM and C205.

3. This test checks for an open between C205 and the splice.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS

If only DTC IP 2016 is stored as "History", check the 1807 circuit for an intermittent open circuit between the IPC and the 1807 splice S324. If PCM DTC IP 1981 history is also set, power and ground is suspected. If there are multiple communication DTCs current (i.e. DTC IP 2016, IP 2064, IP 2128 and IP 2152) perform the Body Control Module (PZM) Diagnostic System Check. Refer to Body Control Module.
