Sensor Circuit:

DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this diagnostic test is to detect a rich condition caused by the fuel injection system, or by an Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) control fuel canister that is purging continuously and causing a rich condition in the engine. The code can only be set during sustained steady driving, such as sustained cruise control operation.

DIAGNOSTIC CIRCUIT CHECK
1. A rich fuel injection system can be caused by:

a. Leaking injector
b. Faulty pressure regulator
c. Restricted fuel return line

These components can be tested using Chart 6C-1: Fuel System Check. Chart 6C-1 Fuel System Check

2. Continuous EVAP control canister purge can be caused by:

a. A leaking purge valve
b. Purge solenoid, circuit or Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

These components can be tested using Chart 6EC-1: EVAP System Check. Chart 6EC-1 EVAP System Check

When all of the above test conditions have been met and long term fuel trim is 104 or less, the system turns off canister purge to attempt to make the system become less rich. If long term fuel trim is still 104 or less (rich system), the Code P080 is set.

TEST CONDITIONS
1. Code P014, P015, P016, P021, P022, P026, P027, P031, P032, or P034 not set.
2. In "Closed Loop."
3. Throttle position switch open.
4. Throttle angle between 5 and 29.8 degrees.
5. Engine coolant temperature above 81.5°C.
6. Canister has been at a purge duty cycle of 94% (purge enabled) at a throttle angle of 10 degrees or greater for 2 minutes.
7. Rear oxygen sensor ready.
8. Long term fuel trim limiting not in effect.

FAILURE CONDITIONS
Rear long term fuel trim is at 104 or less for 25.6 seconds.

ACTION TAKEN
PCM turns "ON" the "Service Engine Soon" Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL).
