PARK LOCK CABLE

Remove or Disconnect
1. Place transaxle range control in "PARK" (P).
2. Left I/P sound insulator and loosen left front carpet to allow access to park lock cable routing.
3. Steering column reinforcement plate.
4. Steering column bolts (4) and lower steering column.
5. Turn ignition key to "RUN" position.
Important Do not attempt to perform Step 4 with ignition key in any other position except "RUN".
6. Slip a flat head screwdriver blade into the slot provided in the ignition switch inhibitor. Depress cable latch and pull park lock cable from inhibitor.
7. Radio and console trim plates.
8. Park lock cable at transaxle range control assembly.
9. Park lock cable from vehicle.
Install or Connect
Adjust
1. Using a flat head screwdriver, pry the lock button of the park lock cable into the "UNLOCKED" position.
2. Park lock cable at transaxle range control assembly. DO NOT attach cable end to the pin on the control lever.
Important Do not attempt to perform Step 3 with ignition key in any other position except "RUN".
3. With transaxle range control assembly in "PARK" (P) and ignition key in "RUN" position, snap park lock cable into inhibitor housing.
4. Turn ignition key to "LOCK" position.
5. Snap cable end onto pin of trans axle range control lever.
6. Push park lock cable towards range control lever assembly to remove slack.
7. Push lock button on park lock cable down into the "LOCKED" position.
Inspect
^ With the range control lever in "PARK" (P) and the ignition key in the "LOCK" position, make sure that the range control lever cannot move to another position. Ignition key should be removable from its lock cylinder.
^ Turn the ignition key to the "RUN" position and move the range control lever to "NEUTRAL" (N). Make sure that the ignition key cannot be turned to the "LOCK" position.
^ If the above checks are OK, proceed to Step 8. If the above checks are NOT OK, readjust park lock cable beginning at Step 1.
8. Raise steering column and install bolts (4).
9. Steering column reinforcement plate.
10. Console and radio trim plates.
11. Secure left front carpet and left I/P sound insulator.
