"__" Displayed In Engine RPM or Coolant Temp

On vehicle equipped with digital clusters, the engine RPM and temperature display will be "--" if a failure occurs in the serial data communications from the IPC to the PCM. This symptom should be diagnosed by retrieving and diagnosing the IPC to PCM serial data trouble code.
