Transaxle Electrical Operation:
Transaxle Electrical Operation Chart
Transmission Component Circuits:
Transmission Component Electrical Circuit
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION:
This diagnostic test monitors engine RPM and vehicle speed and compares them. The PCM will set this code when engine speed exceeds the fault value for a particular vehicle speed. This code can set due to an electrical problem or slippage of the TCC or transaxle clutches. If a TCC or transaxle clutch failure has occurred, the failure is more likely to be observed under high road load (high MAP) conditions. Use code snapshot data to confirm.
TEST CONDITIONS:
1. Codes P026, P027, P031, P032, and P034 not set.
2. PCM commanding fourth gear.
3. Engine RPM 3100 or less.
4. Engine in Closed Loop.
5. MAP between 29 kPa and 80 kPa.
6. TCC commanded 'ON' and brake 'OFF'.
7. TCC mod solenoid at 100% duty cycle.
8. Throttle position switch open.
TCC Applied Test Table:
TCC Applied Test Table
FAILURE CONDITIONS:
The code sets when the engine rpm is greater than rpm fault as indicated by the 'TCC Applied Test Table' for more than 5 seconds.
ACTION TAKEN:
1. The PCM turns 'ON' the 'SERVICE ENGINE SOON' MIL, and remains 'ON' for the ignition cycle.
2. The TCC is disabled for the ignition cycle.
NOTES ON FAULT TREE:
1. This chart checks the electrical operation of the transaxle using the transmissions test box J38791. This chart then references Charts A-D for specific checks.
Chart A:
Chart A
PCM Voltage Check:
PCM Voltage Check
NOTES ON FAULT TREE:
1. Chart A checks for a TCC brake switch or wiring fault. PCM input P171 should cycle from 'HI' to 'LO' to 'HI' if there is no problem. If P171 does cycle and the transmission test box brake led is 'OFF', check the test box for proper connection.
2. To adjust the brake switch, first fully seat switch in its retainer, then pull up on brake pedal.
Chart B:
Chart B
PCM Voltage Check:
PCM Voltage Check
NOTES ON FAULT TREE:
1. Chart B checks for a TCC MOD and TCC apply solenoid or wiring fault.
Chart C:
Chart C
PCM Voltage Check:
PCM Voltage Check
NOTES ON FAULT TREE:
1. Chart C checks for Shift 'A' and Shift 'B' solenoid or wiring fault.
Chart D:
Chart D
NOTES ON FAULT TREE:
1. This stall test checks for TCC apply.
2. This test checks for TCC MOD operation.
3. Code setting with normal TCC operation may indicate possible transaxle clutch slippage, usually during high road load (high MAP) conditions. Use code snapshot data to confirm. Check transaxle for signs of 4th clutch slippage.
NOTE ON 'NO TCC APPLY'
This condition is mechanical or hydraulic and could be caused by the following components:
^ TCC apply solenoid and/or O-ring.
^ TCC apply value.
^ TCC solenoid screen.
^ Turbine shaft and/or seals.
^ Torque converter.
NOTE ON 'TCC APPLIES WITH MAX PRESSURE HARSH APPLY'
This condition is mechanical or hydraulic and could be caused by the following components:
^ TCC MOD solenoid and/or O-ring.
^ Converter clutch regulator valve.
