Change Engine Oil Message

DESCRIPTION
Vehicles are equipped with an Engine Oil Life Index (EOLI) feature as part of the Driver Information Center display (DIC). Engine oil life remaining is displayed through engine data as the "Oil Life Index" and as a "CHANGE ENGINE OIL" message.

When the oil life index reaches 10% or less, a "CHANGE OIL SOON" message will appear as a reminder to schedule an oil change. When the oil life index reaches 0%, the "CHANGE ENGINE OIL" message will appear, indicating that the oil should be changed within the next 200 miles.

The percentage of oil life remaining may be checked anytime by depressing the INFORMATION button several times until the OIL LIFE INDEX appears.

RESETTING THE OIL LIFE INDEX
- After the oil has been changed, press the INFORMATION button repeatedly until the OIL LIFE INDEX is displayed.

- Press and hold the STORE/RECALL button until the display resets to 100. (hold about 5 seconds)

The oil life index is now reset and the "CHANGE ENGINE OIL" message will turn off until the next oil change is needed.

CALCULATION OF THE OIL LIFE INDEX
The oil change interval determined by the EOLI will usually fall between the two recommended service intervals and is determined by accessing engine computer data to determine severity of driving conditions based on coolant sensor, engine load and various data. The EOLI cannot determine excessively dusty conditions or engine malfunctions which may affect the oil. More frequent oil changes will be needed under these conditions.

NOTE: Reset the "CHANGE OIL" light after every oil change, even if the "CHANGE OIL" message did not come on.
