TEST CONDITIONS:
The RSS module monitors the lift / dive signal which is pulled low then high by the PCM after vehicle crank.

FAULT CONDITIONS:
If the RSS module does not see the low to high transition within 20 seconds after key on it sets a lift I dive signal error.

ACTION TAKEN:
Set code S044, disable lift / dive function. This code will not turn on the "SERVICE RIDE CONTROL" message.

DESCRIPTION:
For 1 to 20 seconds after vehicle crank, the RSS module monitors the lift/dive signal. If no signal is detected, this error is activated. A new ignition cycle is required to clear this error.

The lift signal is calculated in the PCM and is based on throttle position, vehicle speed and transmission gear. The dive signal, also calculated in the PCM, is based on rate of change of vehicle speed.

1. To diagnose this condition:
^ Enter output cling,
^ Manipulate affected wiring,
^ Recheck for codes.

NOTES ON INTERMITTENTS
The following conditions may cause code S044 to set intermittently:
^ Circuit 1294 is short to battery and during the starting sequence you wait 15 seconds before key on.
^ PCM disconnected and ignition is keyed on.
^ Engine is started and cranked in drive.
^ PROM in PCM not properly seated.

WHEN ALL DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIRS ARE COMPLETE, CLEAR CODES AND VERIFY OPERATION.
