Cruise Control Circuit:

DESCRIPTION:

The Viscous Converter Clutch (VCC) solenoid is energized when the ECM applies ground to CKT 422, "VCC Solenoid Circuit". The power for the VCC solenoid comes from the 15 amp fuse #1 in the fuse block, and flows through the VCC brake switch to pin A of five-way connector on the transmission. At pin A, current flows into the transmission to the VCC solenoid and then returns to ground through the ECM. For the converter clutch to apply, two conditions must be met:

1. Internal transmission fluid pressure must be correct. The ECM controls the VCC apply solenoid based on the following sensor and switch inputs: If a hydraulic fault causes the converter to apply in 2nd gear, the engine may detonate and run rough at the 1-2 shift. If the VCC does not disengage mechanically when electrically disengaged, the engine may stall as the vehicle comes to a stop.

2. The ECM must ground the VCC solenoid in the transmission . This will allow the converter clutch to apply, if the hydraulic pressure is correct, as described above.
