Removal
Control arm must be removed from vehicle to replace inner control arm bushings. After replacing inner bushings, check wheel alignment as outlined.
1. Remove control arm as described under CONTROL ARM.
2. Insert spacer between control arm flanges. Special tool No. J-35739-1 or equivalent is a combination of two spacers. The narrow spacer must be used for inner bushing removal and installation.
3. Coat the threads of bolt No. J-21474-19 with high pressure lubricant J-23444-A to prevent thread damage.
4. Install remover J-21474, receiver J-21474-5, bearing, nut J-21474-18 and bolt J-21474-19, Fig. 5.
5. Remove bushing from control arm by tightening nut.
Installation
1. Position new bushing on control arm. Bushing must be installed from the outside of the control arm, then drawn inward to the control arm centerline.
2. Insert narrow end of spacer J-35739-1 between control arm flanges, then coat threads of bolt J-21474-19 with high pressure lubricant J-23444-A.
3. Install bushing installer J-28576-1, receiver J-21474-5, bearing, nut J-21474-18 and bolt J-21474-19, Fig. 5.
4. Draw bushing into control arm by tightening nut. Tighten nut until bushing flange seats firmly against control arm.
5. Refer to CONTROL ARM for suspension assembly.
