Power Steering Pressure Switch: Description and Operation

Power Steering Pressure Sensor:

The Power Steering Pressure Sensor (PSPS) is mounted in the steering gear and senses steering gear pressure. The sensor receives a 5-volt reference input form the ECM. The sensor will provide a variable voltage output to the ECM based upon steering gear line pressure. The ECM uses the sensor output to extend the idle speed control motor during high power steering pressure loads to help maintain a stable idle. The ECM checks the output of the sensor at key "on" and compares it to an expected value. ECM code E040/E40 will set if the expected value is not seen at key "on."
