SUBJECT: ENGINE STALL WHEN VEHICLE IS PLACED IN GEAR

MODELS AFFECTED: 1990 DE VILLES, FLEETWOODS, 60 SPECIALS, ELDORADOS, AND SEVILLES WITH 4.5L, VIN 3




This bulletin is being revised to correct the service part usage for the Seville STS. Service Bulletin T-90-2 should be discarded.

Early production 1990 DeVilles, Fleetwoods, 60 Specials (built before VIN breakpoint 217229 for Federal emissions and 217586 for California emissions), Eldorados (built before VIN breakpoint 600811 for Federal emissions and 600776 for California emissions), and Sevilles (built before VIN breakpoint 801006 for Federal emissions and 800776 for California emissions) may experience an engine stall when placed in gear immediately after a cold start. This condition is caused by an improper PROM calibration in the MEM-CAL unit.

To identify the improperly calibrated PROM enter diagnostics, select ECM data, parameter ED99 PROM I.D. for Eldorados and Sevilles and parameter E.2.5 for DeVilles, Fleetwoods, and 60 Specials. Check the parameter display against the PROM I.D. in the chart listed below. If application and PROM I.D. match, install the new service MEM-CAL listed in the chart to correct the stalling condition.
