TPS Sensor Circuit:

DESCRIPTION:

This diagnostic test monitors idle speed and gear selection from Park or Neutral to Drive or Reverse when the throttle is in ISC speed range. If idle speed is greater than desired the ECM will retard the spark and set the code.

TEST CONDITIONS:

Codes E021 and E022 not set.

FAILURE CONDITIONS:

1. Engine running.
2. Engine speed 600 rpm greater than desired.
3. Vehicle speed less than 6 mph.
4. Throttle angel of 20 degrees or less.

ACTION TAKEN:

1. Code is set.
2. No SERVICE ENGINE SOON lamp.
3. Retard ignition timing.

NOTES ON FAULT TREE:

1. Replace the switch, if the display sequence does not match the chart after the adjustment is made.

NOTE ON INTERMITTENTS:

This code will be most likely driver induced by shifting the transaxle from Neutral to Drive while depressing the accelerator. An investigation of driver habits can be helpful in determining how the code was set.
