ECM Power And Ground:

DESCRIPTION:

This diagnostic test monitors the ECM's long term memory for loss of data. If the battery power or ground are disconnected the code will set. Code E052 indicates that the long term memory in the ECM has been reset.

This will be the case whenever power is removed from the ECM (i.e., disconnecting battery cables, disconnecting ECM connector, etc.). This code should be "cleared" from memory after restoring the ECM's power supply.

If code E052 is seen accompanied by complaint of engine quit, stumble, telltale's flashing or other stored codes, check for intermittent loss of power or ground to the ECM on CKT 439 and 450 respectively. Manipulate wiring and connections with engine running. Remove and replace the ECM A/B, C/D, and E/F connectors and ensure that they are latched.

Test Conditions:

Always tested.

FAILURE CONDITIONS:

1. Loss of primary battery power to the ECM.
2. Loss of data from the ECM.

ACTION TAKEN:

1. Code will set, and No service lamps will be set.
2. Clear codes.

NOTE ON INTERMITTENTS:

If the battery has been disconnected for any purpose code E052 will set. The ECM keeps a running check on the memory, if memory changes it resets.
