SUBJECT: FRONT DOOR GLASS BINDS

MODELS AFFECTED: 1990 FLEETWOODS AND SEDAN DE VILLES

Some 1990 Fleetwoods and Sedan DeVilles may experience a bind in the door window at approximately six inches from the fully closed position during the upward cycle. This condition may be caused by an incorrect adjustment of the front run channel upper attachment screw. To repair this condition use the following procedure:

1. Remove door trim.

2. With door glass in the full up position, locate and remove the run channel upper attaching screw. With the screw removed, the run channel upper mounting tab will move outboard (away from the door inner panel). Refer to Figure 10-6-24 on page 10-6-13 in the 1990 DeVille/Fleetwood Service Information Manual.

3. Measure the distance between the door inner panel and the run channel upper mounting tab. Select a suitable shim, such as a flat washer, of thickness equal to the distance measured.

4. Install the shim between the run channel up per mounting tab and the door inner panel. Reinstall the run channel to door inner panel attaching screw removed in step 2. (A slightly longer screw of same dimension and grade may be necessary depending on the thickness of shim required.) Assure that as the screw is tightened, the shim is of sufficient thickness to avoid drawing the run channel toward the door inner panel. (Tighten the run channel attaching screw to 11 N-m (97 lbs.in.).

5. Check operation of the door glass and reinstall door trim.
