Cruise Control Circuit:

DESCRIPTION:

Code E64 is designed to set when the vehicle speed is increasing at an extremely rapid rate (wheelspin). It is a protective measure so that the wheels will not be under cruise control when on ice. If code E64 is stored as an intermittent code and the customer complains of frequent loss of cruise control, drive the car while observing PCM/ECM data P.1.2, vehicle speed. If the speed displayed is erratic, check the operation and integrity of the speed sensor circuit.

Code E64 sets when vehicle speed increases greater than 16 MPH in on second with the cruise engaged (4 MPH in .25 second). If code E64 is set, cruise will disengage and code E64 will store in memory. Most occurrences of code E64 are caused by wheelspin due to icy or wet conditions. If code E64 is found and not other cruise control faults exists, clear codes and road test. If code E64 sets without wheelspin occurring, see PCM/ECM REPLACEMENT CHECK, CHART C-1.

TEST CONDITIONS:

1. Cruise control enabled.
2. Cruise control engaged.

FAILURE CONDITIONS:

Vehicle speed increases more than 4 MPH in 1/4 second.

ACTION TAKEN:

1. Disengaged cruise control.

WHEN ALL DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIRS ARE COMPLETED, CLEAR CODES AND VERIFY OPERATION
