Starting - Incorrect Ignition Key Code Records

89cadillac05

Bulletin No. T-89-87
File in Group 3F
Number 1
Corp. Ref. No. 910103
Date March, 1989
SUBJECT: INCORRECT IGNITION KEY CODE RECORDS

MODELS AFFECTED: 1989 ELDORADOS, SEVILLES, AND ALLANTES

Some 1989 Eldorados, Sevilles, and Allantes may have had improper codes recorded for the vehicle ignition key. This code information appears on the vehicle invoice and in selected Cadillac data information systems. The original key knock-out tags are marked correctly.

The affected key records will contain the letter "V" or "W" in the THIRD digit of the four-digit code. Key records containing an "A" or "B" in the third digit or "V" or "W" in the SECOND digit are not affected. The record of the PASS KEY electrical code is also unaffected.

If the key code listed on the factory invoice has a "V" or "W" in the THM position, reverse the second and third digits for the proper key code. For example, a 12V3 should be 1V23.

Please note that a "V" or "W" in the third digit may be correct for some other model years of Cadillac vehicles. This information pertains only to 1989 Eldorados, Sevilles, and Allantes.
