Oil Pan: Service and Repair
Remove or Disconnect
1. Negative battery cable
2. Raise car
3. Oil pan drain plug and drain oil
4. Two flywheel covers
5. Exhaust crossunder pipe and reposition
6. Oil pan bolts and two nuts from studs
7. Oil pan
Clean
^ Engine block and oil pan sealing surfaces. Sealing surfaces must be free of oil, gasket residue and RTV.
^ Nicks and deep scratches should be filled with RTV and let cure before installing new gasket.
Install or Connect
1. Oil pan gasket
Important
^ Apply a 1/4" bead of RTV at the rear main bearing cap and front cover to block joints.
2. Oil pan to engine block
3. Oil pan bolts and nuts
Tighten
^ Oil pan bolts and nuts to 16 N.m (12 ft. lbs.)
4. Two flywheel covers
5. Oil pan drain plug
Tighten
^ Oil pan drain plug to 30 N.m (22 ft. lbs.)
6. Exhaust crossunder pipe
7. Lower car
8. Engine oil
9. Negative battery cable
