Fuel Injector: Service and Repair

Fig. 75 Fuel injector removal:

The fuel injectors are serviced as an assembly only and should not be immersed in any type of cleaning agent.
1. Remove air cleaner assembly, then disconnect injector electrical connector.
2. Remove fuel meter cover as previously described.
3. Remove injector from fuel meter body by carefully lifting out with a screwdriver, Fig. 75. Leave fuel meter cover gasket in position when removing injector to prevent damage to body casting.
4. Remove large O-ring and back-up washer, then the small O-ring from injector. Discard both O-rings.
5. Carefully remove fuel filter from base of injector.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Install filter on nozzle end of injector with large end of filter toward injector. Ensure filter covers raised rib at bottom of injector, then position filter against base of injector using a twisting motion.
b. Lubricate new small O-ring with automatic transmission fluid, then press O-ring onto injector until it contacts filter.
c. Lubricate new large O-ring with automatic transmission fluid, then install O-ring above back-up washer until flush with top of fuel meter body casting surface.
d. When installing injector, align raised lug on injector base with notch in fuel meter body, then push down on injector until fully seated.
