TEST CONDITIONS
1. RPM equal to or greater than 500.

FAILURE CONDITIONS
Ignition voltage less than or equal to 10 volts for 5 seconds or ignition voltage equal to or greater than 16 volts for 5 seconds.

ACTION TAKEN
1. ECM turns on" Engine Control System Fault" telltale.
2. ECM commands BCM to display a "Service Now" message on Driver Information Center (DIC).
3. Canister purge solenoid is disabled.
4. EGR is disabled.
5. AIR solenoids are disabled.
6. Cruise control solenoids are disabled.
7. Viscous Converter Clutch (VCC) solenoid is deenergized.

DESCRIPTION
The ECM monitors system voltage on the ignition input to the ECM. This code will set if system voltage drops below 10 volts or goes above 16 volts with the engine running above 500 RPM. If the ignition voltage goes to 0 (open circuit) the car will not run since the ECM does not have the ignition signal.

Notes on Fault Tree
1. Checking for proper system voltage. This parameter displays voltage on a circuit other than the ignition circuit.
2. Checking voltage on a different circuit. Significantly different voltages would indicate a wiring problem to the ECM.
3. Checking for proper charging system operation.
4. Checking for proper charging system regulation with no electrical loads on the alternator.
5. Refer to charging system diagnosis. Starting and Charging

Notes on Intermittents
Code EO16 may be stored as a history code if the battery charge was low. Load test the battery and check for proper operation of the charging system. If code B410, B411, or B412 are stored with EO16, diagnose using the appropriate chart in BCM Trouble Code Diagnosis. Body Control Module
