DTC 53

Code 53 indicates that the ECM lost the distributor signal after starting the engine. If distributor reference pulses are interrupted for a short length of time, the engine may not stall, however, Code 53 will be stored. If the pulses are interrupted for a longer period of time, the engine will stall, Code 53 will be stored and Code 12 will be set when attempting to restart engine. If a Code 53 is stored, but does not result in a no start condition, it should be treated as an intermittent Code 12.
