If this code is not displayed during the third pass of diagnostic codes, the problem is an intermittent failure. To help isolate the problem, manipulate related wiring while observing parameter .0.3. If failure is induced, BARO reading will jump from its normal value to an open reading of 14 to 16 kPa.
Code 36 indicates that voltage signal from BARO sensor is too low. This condition can be observed by parameter .0.3 as a BARO reading of 14 to 52 kPa. Possible causes of this condition are:
a. Defective BARO sensor.
b. Defective wiring or electrical connectors.
c. ECM unable to process signals properly. If Codes 22 and 32 are not stored hard with Code 36, begin diagnosis with step 3 of this procedure.
1. If Codes 22 and 32 are stored hard with Code 36, perform step 2.
2. Disconnect MAP, BARO and TPS sensor electrical connectors, then measure voltage between circuit 474 and ground on each harness connector. If no voltage is measured at any sensor, check circuit 474 for an open or short to ground. If circuit is satisfactory, check for faulty ECM or ECM connector and repair or replace as necessary. If there is voltage at any sensor, refer to specific diagnostic procedure for that code.
3. Turn ignition on, enter diagnostics and display parameter .0.3. Code 36 condition will be verified by a reading of 14-52 kPa.
4. Disconnect BARO sensor electrical connector and connect jumper between pins B and C. Note parameter value.
5. If parameter value is 106-108 kPa, check for improper sensor terminal connections or faulty BARO sensor and repair or replace as necessary.
6. If parameter value is 105 kPa or less, measure voltage at pin C. If voltmeter reads 5 volts, proceed to step 7. If no voltage is recorded, repair open or short in circuit 474.
7. Measure voltage between pins B and C. If no voltage is recorded, proceed to step 8. If voltmeter reads 5 volts, check circuit 433 for a short to ground or a short to circuits 476-X and Y. If circuit is satisfactory, check for faulty ECM or ECM connector and repair or replace as necessary.
8. Connect jumper wire between red connector pin 11 and orange connector pin 9. Note parameter value.
9. If parameter value is 106-108 kPa, repair open in circuit 433. If parameter value is 105 or less, check for faulty ECM or ECM connector and repair or replace as necessary.
