SUBJECT: HOOD FLUTTER
MODELS AFFECTED: 1985 FWD DE VILLES AND FLEETWOODS
Hood flutter or hood vibration may be encountered while driving some 1985 Front-Wheel-Drive De Villes and Fleetwoods. Hood flutter is normally a result of an insufficient load upon the rubber hood stops. To repair condition, the following procedure should be performed:
FIGURE 1 - HOOD ADJUSTMENT:
-MOUNTING SCREWS:
1. Inspect hood to fender alignment to determine if hood panel fits flush to fenders, if misaligned, perform step 2; if aligned, proceed to step 3.
2. Raise hood panel and adjust rubber hood stops as necessary to align hood panel flush to fenders (Figure 1).
3. Loosen primary hood latch mounting screws (Figure 2) and lower primary hood latch 1/8".
4. Tighten primary hood latch mounting screws to 9 N.m. (80 in.lbs.).
5. Close hood panel and recheck fit.
After this procedure is completed, a load must be on the hood stops. This load will eliminate hood flutter.
