Rear Door Hinge: Service and Repair




Rear Side Door Upper Hinge and Lower Hinge Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Paint Damage Caution (Paint Damage Caution).

1. Apply masking tape to the door edge.

Note: Do not remove the door from the vehicle to replace the upper or the lower hinges.

2. Open the front door to expose the rear door hinges. Do not open the door to replace the hinges.
3. Clean the area around the hinge and mark the location with a grease pencil.




4. If the upper hinge is broken, remove the upper hinge bolts from the door side in the specified sequence (1, 4).




5. Remove the upper hinge bolts from the hinge pillar side in the specified sequence (1, 4).




6. If the lower hinge is broken, remove the lower hinge bolts from the door side in the specified sequence (3, 2).




7. Remove the lower hinge bolts from the hinge pillar side in the specified sequence (3, 2).
8. Remove the broken hinge from the door.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the new hinge to the door.




2. Position the door hinge to the alignment marks on the hinge pillar or door side as follows:

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

3. Install the lower hinge bolts to the hinge pillar side in the specified sequence (3, 2).

Tighten the bolts to 33 Nm (24 lb ft).




4. Install the lower hinge bolts to the door side in the specified sequence (3, 2).

Tighten the bolts to 33 Nm (24 lb ft).




5. Install the upper hinge bolts to the hinge pillar side in the specified sequence (1, 4).

Tighten the bolts to 33 Nm (24 lb ft).




6. Install the upper hinge bolts to the door side in the specified sequence (1, 4).

Tighten the bolts to 33 Nm (24 lb ft).

7. Remove the support from the door.
8. Inspect the door for proper operation.
9. Remove the masking tape.
