Throttle Body Assembly Replacement

THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Remove the fuel injection sight shield.
2. Drain the radiator coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
3. Remove the air cleaner intake duct.
4. Disconnect the idle air control (IAC) valve electrical connector from the IAC valve.




5. Disconnect the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector from the TP sensor.




6. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector from the MAF sensor.




7. Remove the cruise control cable (2) from the accelerator control bracket (4) and throttle body lever (3).




8. Remove the accelerator control cable (2) from the accelerator control bracket and throttle body lever (3).




9. Remove the electrical harness retainer clip (1) from the accelerator control cable bracket (3) if applicable.




10. Remove the vacuum hoses from the throttle body noting location.




11. Remove the 3 nuts and bolts holding the throttle body to the supercharger.
12. Remove the throttle body assembly from the intake manifold.

NOTE: Do not use solvent of any type when cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as damage to the gasket surfaces and throttle body assembly may result.
Use care in cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as sharp tools may damage the gasket surfaces.

13. Clean the gasket surface on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly.




14. Remove the throttle body assembly.
15. Remove the accelerator controls cable bracket from the throttle body if the throttle body is being replaced.
16. Clean the gasket surface on the supercharger and the throttle body assembly.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.




1. Install the accelerator controls bracket to the throttle body if necessary.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).




2. Install the new gasket, new inserts and studs if necessary.
3. Install the throttle body assembly.
4. Install the throttle body retaining nuts and bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the throttle body retaining nuts and bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).




5. Install the vacuum hoses to throttle body as noted on removal.




6. Install the electrical harness retainer clip (1) to the accelerator control cable bracket (3) if previously removed.

IMPORTANT: The throttle should operate freely without binding between full closed and wide open throttle (WOT).




7. Install the accelerator control cable (2) to the accelerator control bracket and throttle body lever (3).




8. Install the cruise control cable (2) to the accelerator control bracket (4) and throttle body lever (3).




9. Connect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector to the MAF sensor.




10. Connect the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector to the TP sensor.




11. Connect the idle air control (IAC) valve electrical connector to the IAC valve.
12. Install the air cleaner intake duct.
13. Refill the radiator coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
14. Install the fuel injection sight shield.
