Handle Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Compartment

Removal Procedure

1. Partially open the IP compartment.
Pull down the stops. Allow the IP compartment to travel past the stops.




2. Remove the 5 fasteners (1) that hold the IP compartment bucket to the IP compartment door.
3. Remove the IP compartment bucket from the IP compartment door.




4. Remove the 2 fasteners (3) from the latch assembly.
5. Using a stiff blade, slide the handle retainer (1) off of the handle.
6. Remove the handle and latch assembly from the IP compartment.
7. Disengage the wire (2) from the handle to the latch.
Note the position of the wire for the proper installation.
8. Remove the lock cylinder from the handle. Refer to Lock Cylinder Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Compartment (Removal and Replacement) .



Installation Procedure

1. Install the lock cylinder to the handle. Refer to Lock Cylinder Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Compartment (Removal and Replacement) .




2. Install the rod (2) from the latch assembly to the handle.
3. Install the handle and latch assembly to the IP compartment door.
4. Slide on the handle retainer (1).
5. Install the latch assembly fasteners (3).




6. Install the IP compartment bucket to the IP compartment door.
Install the fasteners (1).
7. Close the IP compartment.
