Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Right

- J 41131 Engine Tilt Strap

Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.





2. Remove the fuel injector sight shield.
3. Remove the air cleaner intake duct.
4. Remove the drive belt tensioner.
5. Remove the right and left engine mount struts.
6. Rotate the engine for access.
7. Remove the right spark plug wires from the right spark plugs.
8. Remove the EVAP purge solenoid and the EVAP purge solenoid brace.
9. Remove the right engine lift bracket nut and the bolt.
10. Remove the right engine lift bracket.





11. Remove the fuel injector sight shield bracket nuts.
12. Remove the fuel injector sight shield bracket.





13. Remove the right valve rocker arm cover bolts.

Important: If the valve rocker arm cover adheres to the cylinder head, remove the valve rocker arm cover by bumping the end of the valve rocker and cover with the palm of your hand or a soft rubber mallet.

14. Remove the right valve rocker arm cover.
15. Remove the right valve rocker arm cover gasket.
16. Clean the valve rocker arm cover mating surfaces.
17. Clean the valve rocker arm cover bolts of all thread locking adhesive.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the new valve rocker arm cover gasket. Make sure that the valve rocker arm cover gasket is seated properly in the valve rocker arm cover groove.
2. Install the right valve rocker arm cover.
3. Apply thread lock compound GM P/N 12345:382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) or equivalent to the valve rocker arm cover bolt threads.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Install the right valve rocker arm cover bolts.
Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
5. Install the fuel injector sight shield bracket to the exhaust manifold studs.





6. Install the fuel injector sight shield bracket nuts.
Tighten the nuts to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).





7. Install the right engine lift bracket.
8. Install the right engine lift bracket nut and the bolt.
Tighten the nut and the bolt to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).
9. Install the EVAP purge solenoid brace and the EVAP purge solenoid.
10. Install the right spark plug wires to the spark plugs.
11. Carefully release the J 41131. Return the engine to the proper position.
12. Install the right and left engine mount struts.
13. Install the drive belt tensioner.
14. Install the air cleaner intake duct.
15. Install the fuel injector sight shield.
16. Connect the negative battery cable.
17. Check and fill crankcase as necessary.
18. Inspect for oil leaks.
