Exhaust Manifold Replacement Right (w/NC8)

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Exhaust Service Caution in Service Precautions.

Caution: Refer to Protective Goggles and Gloves Caution in Service Precautions.





1. Remove the fuel injector sight shield.
2. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor at the sensor pigtail.
3. Remove the right side spark plugs.
4. Disconnect the connector from the secondary AIR valve (2).
5. Disconnect the hose (1) from the secondary AIR valve (2).
6. Remove the two bolts (4) attaching the secondary AIR tube to the exhaust manifold.
7. Remove the secondary AIR tube and the gasket (5) from the exhaust manifold. Do not reuse the gasket.
8. Remove the bolt (3) securing the secondary AIR valve (2) to the fuel injector sight shield bracket.
9. Remove the secondary AIR valve (2) from the fuel injector sight shield bracket.





10. Remove the two nuts securing the power brake booster heat shield to the exhaust crossover.
11. Remove the power brake booster heat shield from the exhaust crossover.
12. Remove the two bolts attaching the exhaust crossover to the right exhaust manifold.
13. Remove the transaxle filler tube.
14. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
15. Remove the exhaust manifold pipe.





16. Remove the right exhaust manifold studs.
17. Remove the heated oxygen sensor if replacement is necessary.





18. Remove the fuel injector sight shield bracket retaining nuts.
19. Remove the fuel injector sight shield bracket.





20. Remove the right engine lift bracket retaining fasteners.
21. Remove the right engine lift bracket.





22. Remove the bolt (1) securing the EGR inlet pipe to the right exhaust manifold.
23. Remove the right exhaust manifold retaining fasteners.
24. Remove the right exhaust manifold and the gasket from the engine. Do not reuse the gasket.
25. Remove the exhaust crossover seal from the exhaust crossover. Do not reuse the seal.
26. Clean and inspect the right exhaust manifold.

Installation Procedure





1. Place a NEW exhaust crossover seal over the exhaust crossover.
2. Place a NEW exhaust manifold gasket over the cylinder head studs.
3. Position the right exhaust manifold around the exhaust crossover and up to the right cylinder head.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. install the right exhaust manifold fasteners.
^ Tighten the exhaust manifold fasteners to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the bolt (1) securing the EGR inlet pipe to the right exhaust manifold.
^ Tighten the EGR inlet pipe bolt to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).





6. Position the right engine lift bracket to the engine.
7. Install the right engine lift bracket retaining fasteners.
^ Tighten the engine lift bracket retaining fasteners to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).





8. Position the fuel injector sight shield bracket to the engine.
9. Install the fuel injector sight shield bracket retaining nuts.
^ Tighten the fuel injector sight shield bracket retaining nuts to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).





10. Install the right exhaust manifold studs.
^ Tighten the exhaust manifold studs to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).
11. Install the heated oxygen sensor.
12. Install the exhaust manifold pipe.
13. Lower the vehicle.
14. install the transaxle filler tube.





15. Install the bolts securing the exhaust crossover to the right exhaust manifold.
^ Tighten the exhaust crossover bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
16. Install the power brake booster heat shield to the exhaust crossover.
17. Install the two nuts securing the power brake booster heat shield to the exhaust crossover.
^ Tighten the power brake booster heat shield nuts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).





18. Position the secondary AIR valve (2) to the fuel injector sight shield bracket.
19. Install the bolt (3) securing the secondary AIR valve (2) to the fuel injector sight shield bracket.
^ Tighten the secondary AIR valve bolt to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
20. Install the new gasket (5) to the secondary AIR tube.
21. Install the two bolts (4) attaching the secondary AIR tube to the exhaust manifold.
^ Tighten the secondary AIR tube bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
22. Connect the hose (1) to the secondary AIR valve (2).
23. Connect the connector to the secondary AIR valve (2).
24. Install the right side spark plugs.
25. Connect the heated oxygen sensor at the sensor pigtail.
26. Install the fuel injector sight shield.
