Bulletin No.: 03-08-49-016

Date: October 08, 2003

TECHNICAL

Subject:

Ashtray Difficult to Open or Will Not Stay Closed (Replace Ashtray Springs)

Models:
2000-2004 Buick LeSabre

Condition

Some customers may comment that the ashtray will not close or is difficult to open.

Cause

This condition may be due to the ashtray assembly being built with the incorrect springs.

Correction

Replace the ashtray springs following the procedure below:

1. Remove the ashtray assembly.

2. Using a flathead screw driver or needle nose pliers, remove the current ashtray springs.

3. Install the new springs by first attaching the spring to the ashtray lid and then hooking it into the slot of the ashtray housing. Refer to the diagram to insure the correct position of the springs, (1) for left and (2) for right.

4. Apply white grease lubricant, P/N 1052196 (in Canada, 5264008), to the coil of the new springs to reduce noise.

5. Reinstall the ashtray assembly.
