Front Wheel Drive Shaft Oil Seal Replacement (Right)
Removal Procedure^ Tools Required
- J 23129 Axle Boot Remover
- J 6125-1B Slide Hammer
1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the right front tire and wheel.
3. Remove the right engine splash shield.
4. Remove the right stabilizer shaft brackets from the right lower control arm. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
5. Remove the right tie rod end from the right steering knuckle. Refer to Steering Knuckle Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
6. Remove the right lower ball joint from the right lower control arm. Refer to Steering Knuckle Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
7. Disconnect the right drive axle from the transaxle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shafts Replacement.
8. Secure the right drive axle to the right steering knuckle and strut.
9. Use J23129 with J 6125-1B in order to pry out the seal (409). Do NOT damage the seal bore.
Installation Procedure

^ J 29130 Right Side Axle Seal Installer
^ J 37292-B Axle Seal Protector
1. Use a light wipe of transaxle fluid to lubricate the seal lip.
2. Use the J 29130 in order to install a new seal.
3. Install the J 37292-B in the seal.
Important: Carefully guide the axle shaft past the lip seal. Do NOT allow the shaft splines to contact any portion of the seal lip surface or damage to the seal will occur.
4. Connect the drive axle to the transaxle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shafts Replacement.
5. Remove the J 37292-B.
6. Install the right lower ball joint to the right steering knuckle. Refer to Steering Knuckle Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
7. Install the right tie rod end to the right steering knuckle. Refer to Steering Knuckle Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
8. Install the right stabilizer shaft bracket to the right lower control arm. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
9. Install the right engine splash shield.
10. Install the right front tire and wheel.
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Adjust the fluid level.
13. Inspect for proper fluid level.
14. Inspect for fluid leaks.
