Rocker Arm Assembly: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURE1. Remove the valve rocker arm cover(s).
2. Remove the valve rocker arm bolt(s).
3. Remove the valve rocker arm(s).
Important: Place the parts on a clean surface. Store the components in order so they can be reassembled in the same location and with the same mating surfaces as when removed.
4. Remove the push rod guide plate(s) if all the rocker arms are removed.
5. Remove the push rod(s).
6. Clean the push rod(s), rocker arm(s), the bolt(s) and the retainer(s) in a suitable solution.
7. Clean the rocker arm bolt(s) of all thread adhesive.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
^ Tools Required
- J 36660 Torque Angle Meter
1. Use compressed air in order to blow oil out of the tapped holes in the cylinder head.
2. Install the push rod(s) to the same position the pushrod(s) was removed from.
3. Install the push rod guide plate(s).
4. Install the valve rocker arm(s).
5. Apply GM P/N 12345493 thread locker or equivalent to the rocker arm bolt threads
Notice: This bolt is designed to permanently stretch when tightened. The correct part number fastener must be used to replace this type of fastener. Do not use a bolt that is stronger in this application. If the correct bolt is not used, the parts will not be tightened correctly. The system or the components may be damaged.
6. Install the rocker arm bolt(s).
^ Tighten the rocker arm bolt(s) to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.). Use the J 36660.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
7. Install the valve rocker arm cover(s).
8. Inspect the valve train for noise.
