Oil Pan: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURE^ Tools Required
- J28467-A Engine Support Fixture
- J 28467-90 Engine Support Fixture Adapter
- J 36462 Engine Support Adapter Leg
- J 39505 Torque Wrench Adapter
1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable.
2. Remove the engine mount struts from the engine.
3. Remove the A/C compressor mounting bolts and set the compressor aside.
4. Install the J 28467-A, J 28467-90 and J 36462.
5. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
6. Disconnect the three-way catalytic converter pipe from the right (rear) exhaust manifold.
7. Drain the engine oil.
8. Remove the oil level sensor wiring harness connection.
9. Remove the starter motor.
10. Remove the transaxle brace from the oil pan.
11. Remove the transaxle mount lower nuts.
12. Remove the engine mount lower nuts.
13. Raise the engine using the engine support fixture in order to gain access for oil pan removal.
14. Remove the engine mount bracket with the engine mount from the oil pan.
15. Remove the right (rear) oil pan side bolts. Use the J 39505.
16. Remove the left (front) oil pan side bolts.
17. Remove the oil pan retaining bolts.
18. Remove the oil pan.
19. Remove the oil pan gasket.
20. Clean the oil pan and the engine block gasket surface.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

- J 39505 Torque Wrench Adapter
1. Apply a small amount of sealer GM P/N 1234579 or equivalent on either side of the rear main bearing cap, where the seal surface on the cap meets the cylinder block (1). Press sealant into the gap with putty knife.
2. Install the oil pan gasket.
3. Install the oil pan.
4. Install the oil pan retaining bolts.
^ Tighten the oil pan retaining bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
5. Install the left (front) oil pan side bolts.
^ Tighten the oil pan side bolts to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the right (rear) oil pan side bolts. Use the J 39505.
^ Tighten the oil pan side bolts to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
7. Install the engine mount bracket with the engine mount to oil pan.
8. Lower the engine using the engine support fixture .
9. Install the engine mount lower nuts.
10. Install the transaxle mount lower nuts.
11. Install the transaxle brace to the oil pan.
12. Install the starter motor.
13. Install the oil level sensor wiring harness connection.
14. Connect the three-way catalytic converter pipe to the right (rear) exhaust manifold.
15. Lower the vehicle.
16. Remove the J 28467-A, J 28467-90 and J 36462.
17. Install the A/C compressor.
18. Install the engine mount struts to the engine.
19. Fill the engine with oil.
20. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable.
