Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

Clearing DTCs Use one of the two following methods in order to erase the DTCs in the EBCM/EBTCM memory:
^ The Scan Tool method
^ The ignition cycle default method

Verify the proper system operation and the absence of DTCs after completing the clearing procedure.

The EBCM/EBTCM will not permit Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) clearing until all of the DTCs have been displayed.

The following methods will not clear the DTCs:
^ Unplugging the EBCM/EBTCM
^ Disconnecting the battery cables
^ Turning off the ignition switch (except on an ignition cycle default)

SCAN TOOL METHOD
Use the following procedure in order to clear the DTCs with the Scan Tool:
1. Select DTC(s) for Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
2. View the DTCs.
3. After all of the DTCs have been displayed, the Scan Tool will display the following question: CLEAR DTCs? Answer YES

4. The Scan Tool will display the following message: History Data Will Be Lost. Clear DTCs? Answer YES
This action will clear the DTCs.

IGNITION CYCLE DEFAULT
Existing DTCs automatically clear from the EBCM/EBTCM memory if no diagnostic trouble codes occur for 100 drive cycles.

A drive cycle occurs when the ignition is turned to RUN and the vehicle is driven faster than 16 km/h (10 mph).
