Replacement - Lost Key

STEERING COLUMN LOCK CYLINDER SET REPLACEMENT - LOST KEY

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

NOTICE: Once steering column is removed from vehicle, the column is extremely susceptible to damage.

1. Negative (-) battery cable.
2. Disable the SIR System.
3. Vehicle wire harness from ignition switch assembly (19).
4. Steering column from vehicle.
5. Linear shift assembly (35).
6. Transaxle cable from lower shift cable ball stud on cable shift cam assembly (38).
7. Three flat head 6 -lobed socket tap screws (37).
^ Shift column to "NEUTRAL" position to gain access to lower socket tap screw (37).
8. Linear shift assembly (35) from column.
9. Drill a 9/32-inch hole on back of bearing & housing assembly (11).
10. Insert tool into hole to engage lock retainer spring.
Turn tool to break retainer spring.
11. Hold column vertical and tap on housing assembly (11) to dislodge lock retainer.
^ If necessary use needle nose pliers to remove retainer.
12. When lock retainer is removed pull lock cylinder (13) from housing assembly (11).

CLEAN
^ All debris and metal shavings from drilled hole and inside housing assembly (11).

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Steering column lock cylinder set (13).
^ Key installed in lock cylinder set (13).
^ Ensure sector is in "RUN" position.
^ Line up locking tab with slot in housing assembly (11) and push into position.
2. Linear shift assembly (35).
3. Three flat head 6-lobed socket screws (37).
^ Linear shift assembly (35) must be out of "PARK" position to install lower socket screw (37).

TIGHTEN
^ Tighten screws (37) to 10 Nm (89 lb. in.).

4. Transaxle cable to lower shift cable ball stud on cable shift cam assembly (38).

ADJUST
^ Park lock cable assembly (57).
A. Route cable from shift assembly to housing assembly, Strg col.
B. With key in run position and shift lever in park detent, snap connector body of cable assembly to housing. Make sure locking tab is fully engaged into housing.
C. Push and hold cable sheath at adjuster body toward shifter assembly. Turn key to off-lock position and pull key halfway out of lock cylinder, release cable sheath.
D. Allow cable to reach equilibrium, lock cable adjuster.

5. Steering column to vehicle.
6. Vehicle wire harness to ignition switch assembly (19).
7. If all service operations are completed, enable the SIR system.
8. Negative (-) battery cable.
