Differential: Service and Repair
^ Tool Required:
- J 34757 Output Shaft C-Ring Remover and Installer
- Or Equivalent
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Raise vehicle and support.
3. Vehicle speed sensor.
4. Right front tire and wheel assembly.
5. Right front splash shield.
6. Right front ABS wheel speed sensor and harness from suspension support.
7. Right front ball joint.
8. Right front stabilizer link pin.
9. Right front drive axle from transaxle.
10. Transaxle to engine brace.
11. Case extension bolts.
12. Case extension assembly and seal.
13. Thrust bearing (715) and washer (714).
14. Rotate final drive assembly (700) until opening in snap ring (512) is visible.
15. Using tool J 34757, push snap ring partially off output shaft.
Important: On some transaxles, the snap ring is not removable.
16. Final drive sun gear (697).
17. Parking gear (696).
18. Thrust bearing (691).
19. Final drive sun gear shaft (689).
Important: If further service is needed on the final drive assembly.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Final drive sun gear shaft (689).
2. Thrust bearing (691).
3. Parking gear (696).
4. Final drive sun gear (697).
5. Final drive assembly onto output shaft.
6. Snap ring (512) onto output shaft, using J 34757.
7. Washer (714) and thrust bearing (715) onto final drive assembly. Use assembly lube TRANSJEL J 36850, or equivalent (petroleum jelly), to retain washer and bearing.
8. Seal and case extension.
9. Case extension bolts.
Tighten
^ Bolts to 36 Nm (27 lbs.).
10. Transaxle to engine brace.
11. Right front drive axle to transaxle.
12. Right front stabilizer link pin.
13. Right front ball-joint.
14. Connect right front ABS wheel speed sensor.
15. Right front splash shield.
16. Right front tire and wheel assembly.
17. Vehicle speed sensor.
18. Lower vehicle.
19. Negative battery cable.
