Camshaft and Bearings Clean and Inspect

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 7872 Magnetic Base Indicator Set or equivalent.





PROCEDURE
1. Measure the camshaft journals with a micrometer. If journals are not within specifications, replace the camshaft.





2. Measure camshaft runout using J 7872.
a. Mount the camshaft in V-blocks between centers.
b. Use the J 7872 in order to check the intermediate camshaft journal.
3. If runout exceeds specifications, camshaft is excessively bent and should be replaced.
