Scan Tool Testing and Procedures
The scan tool, when plugged into the Data Link Connector (DLC), become part of the vehicle's electronic system. The scan tool can perform the following functions:- Display ABS/Traction Control System (TCS) data.
- Display and clear ABS/TCS diagnostic trouble codes.
- Control ABS/TCS components.
- Perform extensive ABS/TCS diagnosis.
- Provide diagnostic testing for intermittent ABS/TCS conditions.
Each test mode has specific diagnosis capabilities which depend upon various keystrokes. In general, the scan tool has five test modes for diagnosing the antilock brake system. The five test modes are as follows:
- DATA LIST - In this test mode, the scan tool continuously monitors wheel speed data, brake switch status, ABS and TCS status and other inputs and outputs. Items on Data List 2 cannot be read if a DTC is present.
- DTC HISTORY- The ABS/TCS system has no DTC History capabilities.
- DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES - In this test mode, diagnostic trouble codes stored by the EBCM/EBTCM may be displayed or cleared.
- ABS/TCS SNAPSHOT- In this test mode, the scan tool captures ABS/TCS data before and after a malfunction occurrence or from a forced manual snapshot trigger. Items in Snapshot 2 cannot be read until DTCs are cleared from memory.
- ABS/TCS TESTS - In this test mode, the scan tool performs hydraulic modulator functional tests to assist in problem isolation during troubleshooting. Tests cannot be performed until all DTCs stored have been cleared from memory. For more information refer to the Chassis section of the scan tool Operators Manual.
