Throttle Body Assembly Removal and Replacement






REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Drain the radiator coolant.
2. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair.





3. Remove the air intake tube (1).





4. Remove the IAC valve (4), TP sensor (3), and MAF sensor (1) electrical connectors.





5. Remove the accelerator control (3) and cruise control (1) cables from the throttle body lever and bracket.
6. Remove the electrical harness retainer clip from the accelerator control cable bracket.





7. Remove the accelerator control cable bracket from the throttle body.





8. Remove the vacuum lines (1) from the throttle body noting location.





9. Remove the nuts and bolts holding the throttle body to the intake manifold using a wrench on the manifold side of the inserts to prevent the inserts from rotating in the manifold casting.
10. Remove the throttle body assembly.

NOTICE: Do Not use solvent of any type when cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as damage to the gasket surfaces and throttle body assembly may result. Use care in cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as sharp tools may damage the gasket surfaces.

11. Clean the gasket surface on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the accelerator control cable bracket to the throttle body.
Tighten
^ Accelerator control cable bracket bolts to 3 Nm (27 lb. in.).
2. Install the new gasket, and new inserts and studs it necessary.
3. Install the throttle body assembly.
4. Install the throttle body retaining nuts and bolts (3).
Tighten
^ Throttle body retaining nuts and bolts to 10 Nm (7 lb. ft.).
5. Install the vacuum lines (1) to throttle body as noted on removal.
6. Install the accelerator control and cruise control cables to accelerator cable bracket at throttle body.
7. Install the accelerator control and cruise control cables to the throttle body lever.

IMPORTANT: Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator pedal. The throttle should operate freely without binding between full closed and wide open throttle. Refer to Accelerator Controls for additional information on accelerator controls. 8. Install the electrical harness retainer clip and harness to the accelerator control cable bracket.
9. Install the air intake tube (1).
10. Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair.
Tighten
^ Bolt to 2 Nm (18 in. lb.).
11. Refill the radiator to replace the lost coolant.
