Oil Pump Overhaul

1. Clean all parts in a suitable solvent. Remove all varnish, sludge and dirt.
2. Remove all traces of old gasket from the front cover and engine block.
3. Inspect the pump cover and the front cover for the following conditions:
^ Cracks
^ Scoring
^ Porous or damaged casting
^ Damaged threads
^ Excessive wear
4. Inspect the pressure regulator valve for the following conditions:
^ Scoring
^ Sticking in the bore
^ Burrs
5. Inspect the pressure regulator spring for the following conditions:
^ Loss of tension
^ Bent condition
6. Inspect the oil pump gears for the following conditions:
^ Chipping
^ Galling
^ Scoring
^ Excessive wear





7. Measure the inner gear tip clearance.





8. Measure the outer gear tip clearance.





9. Measure the gear end clearance (gear drop in housing).
10. Measure the pressure regulator valve for valve to bore clearance.
11. Lubricate the gears with petroleum jelly.
12. Assemble the gears in the housing.
13. Pack the gear cavity with petroleum jelly.





14. Install the oil pump cover and screws.
^ Tighten the screws to 11 Nm (98 inch lbs.).
15. Install the pressure regulator spring and valve.
16. Install the oil filter adapter with a new gasket.
^ Tighten the bolts to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).
17. Install the front cover.
