Oil Pan: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable.
2. Remove the engine mount struts from the engine.
3. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
4. Disconnect the front exhaust pipe from the manifold. See Exhaust System.
5. Remove the right front tire.
6. Remove the right inner fender splash shield. See Body and Frame.
7. Drain the engine oil.
8. Remove the oil filter.
9. Remove the engine mount bracket bolts from the engine.
10. Remove the flex plate cover. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
11. Use a transmission jack in order to raise the engine at the transaxle.
CAUTION: Remove the oil level sensor, located in the oil pan, before the oil pan is removed. The sensor may be damaged if the oil pan is removed first.
12. Remove the oil level sensor.
13. Remove the oil pan retaining bolts.
14. Lower the oil pan.
15. Remove the oil pan.
16. Remove the oil pan gasket.
17. Clean the following parts:
^ The oil pan flanges.
^ The oil pan rail.
^ The front cover.
^ The rear main bearing cap.
^ The threaded holes.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the oil pan gasket.
2. Install the oil pan.
3. Apply thread lock compound GM P/N 12345382 or equivalent to the oil pan bolt threads.
CAUTION: Do not overtighten bolts or damage to the oil pan may occur, resulting in an oil leak.
4. Install the oil pan bolts. Tighten the bolts to 14 Nm (125 inch lbs.).
CAUTION: Install the oil level sensor, located in the oil pan, after the oil pan is installed. The sensor may be damaged if the oil level sensor is installed first.
5. Install the oil level sensor. Tighten the bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the oil level sensor connector.
7. Lower the engine.
8. Install the flex plate cover. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
9. Install the engine mount bracket bolts to the engine.
10. Install the oil filter.
11. Install the right inner fender splash shield. See Body and Frame.
12. Install the right front wheel.
13. Connect the front exhaust pipe to the manifold. See Exhaust System.
14. Lower the vehicle.
15. Install the engine mount struts to the engine.
16. Fill the crankcase with clean engine oil.
17. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable.
18. Inspect for the proper fluid levels.
19. Inspect for leaks.
