Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair
TOOL REQUIRED^ J 37096 Flex Plate Holding Tool
^ J 38197 Crankshaft Balancer Puller
^ J 36660 Torque Angle Meter
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable.
2. Remove the supercharger drive belt.
3. Remove the drive belt.
4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
5. Remove the right front tire and wheel.
6. Remove the right inner fender splash shield. See Body and Frame.
7. Remove the flex plate cover. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
8. Install Flex Plate Holding Tool.
9. Remove the crankshaft balancer retaining bolt.
CAUTION: Service the balancer as a unit. Do not separate the pulley from the balancer hub.
10. Install Crankshaft Balancer Puller.
11. Remove the crankshaft balancer.
12. Remove Crankshaft Balancer Puller.
INSTALLATION
1. Coat the front cover seal contact area on the crankshaft balancer, and the seal surface with engine oil.
2. Install the crankshaft balancer.
3. Install the crankshaft balancer retaining bolt with an assistant in order to keep the flywheel from turning. Use Flex Plate Holding Tool. Tighten the bolt to 150 Nm (111 ft. lbs.) + 76°.
4. Remove Flex Plate Holding Tool.
5. Install the flex plate cover. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
6. Install the right inner fender splash shield. See Body and Frame.
7. Install the right front tire and wheel.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Install the drive belt.
10. Install the supercharger drive belt.
11. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable.
