Alternator: Description and Operation
The generator is electrically similar to earlier generators, it features a delta stator, rectifier bridge, and rotor with slip rings and brushes. A conventional pulley and fan are used to cool the slip ring and frame, rectifier bridge, and regulator. The generator is serviced as a complete unit, if it becomes inoperative it must be replaced. The CS stands for charging system. "144" denotes the outside diameter, in millimeters, of the stator laminations. The CS-144 is rated at 124 amperes.
The CS-144 features sealed bearings with lifetime lubrication. No periodic maintenance on the generator is required. The usual attention should be given to belt tightness and wear, and to mounting bolt tightness.
