Engine Assembly Replacement

1. Remove the hood. See Body and Frame.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Depressurize the fuel lines. See Powertrain Management.
4. Drain the coolant. See Cooling System.
5. Drain the engine oil.
6. Remove the radiator hoses.
7. Remove the heater supply hoses. See Heating and Air Conditioning.
8. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the engine block.
9. Remove the engine harness connector at the bulkhead.
10. Remove the drive belt.
11. Remove the power steering pump. Set the pump aside. See Steering and Suspension.
12. Remove the air flow duct.
13. Remove the throttle cable from the throttle linkage.
14. Remove the mounting bracket.
15. Disconnect the other applicable cables from the engine.
16. Remove the wiring harness connectors from the following locations:
^ The MAT sensor
^ The throttle position sensor
^ The idle air control valve
^ The oxygen sensor The A/C compressor. See Powertrain Management.
^ The oil pressure switch
^ The power steering cutout switch. See Steering and Suspension.
^ The vehicle speed sensor (VSS).
^ The low oil level sensor
17. Remove the ignition cold assembly ground strap from the fender inner panel attaching screws.
18. Remove the fuel feed and return lines from the fuel rail and the pressure regulator.
19. Remove the emission control canister hoses from the throttle body connections.
20. Remove the brake booster from the engine vacuum connections.
21. Remove the heater control hoses from the engine vacuum connections.
22. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle suitably.
23. Remove the exhaust pipe from the right manifold. See Exhaust System.
24. Remove the A/C compressor from the engine. Tie the compressor back away from the engine. See Heating and Air Conditioning.
25. Remove the engine to the transaxle bracket.
26. Remove the flex plate cover.
27. Remove the starter motor. See Starting and Charging.

NOTE: Use a scribe in order to mark the relationship between the flex plate and the torque converter. This ensures proper reassembly.

28. Remove the torque converter to flex plate bolts.
29. Lower the vehicle.
30. Attach a suitable lifting hook and a chain to the engine lifting bracket.
31. Raise the engine slightly in order to take weight off of the mounts.
32. Remove the torque axis engine mount.
33. Support the transaxle.
34. Remove the engine to transaxle bolts.
35. Separate the engine from the transaxle.
36. Raise the engine.
