Engine Block Heater: Description and Operation

The engine block heater is used to preheat engine coolant for cold weather starting. The engine coolant heater operates from a 110-volt AC power source and uses a heating element installed in the engine block's water jacket. The heating element warms the coolant when the heater cord is plugged into an AC power source.

The unit has a detachable electrical cord. If heater fails to operate, check the cord, connections and power supply before replacing the heating element.
