Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair

LEFT
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove top half of air cleaner assembly and throttle cable duct.
3. Partially drain cooling system, then disconnect radiator hose from thermostat housing.
4. Disconnect coolant bypass pipe at coolant pump and from exhaust manifold.
5. Remove exhaust crossover heat shield.
6. Remove exhaust crossover pipe from manifold.
7. Disconnect secondary ignition wires from spark plugs.
8. Remove exhaust manifold heat shield, Fig.4.
9. Remove exhaust manifold retaining nuts, then the exhaust manifold.
10. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten exhaust manifold and heat shield to specifications.


RIGHT
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove top half of air cleaner assembly and throttle cable duct.
3. Remove exhaust crossover heat shield.
4. Remove crossover at exhaust manifold.
5. Remove heated oxygen sensor.
6. Disconnect EGR pipe at exhaust manifold.
7. Raise and support vehicle.
8. Remove transaxle oil fill tube and level indicator assembly.
9. Remove exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
10. Disconnect exhaust pipe from converter flange, and support converter.
11. Remove converter heat shield from body.
12. Remove exhaust manifold heat shield.
13. Remove exhaust manifold mounting nuts, Fig.4, then pull exhaust manifold from bottom of vehicle
