Right Side (Rear)

Tool Required:
J 36660 Torque/Angle Meter

Important
^ During disassembly, be sure that the valve train components are kept together and identified so that they can be installed in their original locations.
^ Before remove the cylinder head(s) from the engine and before disassembling the valve mechanism, make a compression test and note the results.

Intake Bolts:

Remove or Disconnect

1. Relieve fuel system pressure.
2. Negative battery cable.
3. Drain and recover cooling system.
4. Top half of the air cleaner assembly and throttle body duct.
5. Exhaust crossover heat shield.
6. Exhaust crossover from both exhaust manifolds.
7. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
8. Right exhaust manifold.
9. Lower vehicle.
10. Spark plug wires at right cylinder head.
11. Valve rocker cover.
12. Intake manifold.
13. Pushrods.

Important
^ Place pushrods in order so they can be installed in their original position.

14. Cylinder head.

Clean
^ Gasket surfaces on the cylinder head, cylinder block and the intake manifold.
^ Cylinder block bolt threads. Cylinder head bolts.

Install or Connect

1. Place the gasket in position over the dowel pins with the note "This Side Up" showing.
2. Cylinder head.
3 Coat the cylinder head bolt threads with GM pipe sealer P/N 10520805 or equivalent, and install bolts.

Cylinder Head Installation:

Tighten
^ Head bolts in proper sequence as illustrated.

4. Intake gasket.
5. Pushrods loosely retained with rocker arms (install correct length pushrods).
^ Install pushrods in their original location.
^ Coat the ends of the pushrods with prelube GM P/N 1052356.
^ Intake pushrods are marked yellow and are 5-3/4" long.
^ Exhaust pushrods are marked green and are 6" long.
^ Make sure pushrods seat in lifter.
6. Rocker arm bolts.
7. Intake manifold.
8. Valve rocker covers.
9. Spark plug wires to cylinder head.
10. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
11. Right exhaust manifold.
12. Lower vehicle.
13. Exhaust crossover at right manifold.
14. Crossover heat shield.
15. Fill cooling system.
16. Top half of the air cleaner assembly and throttle body duct.
17. Negative battery cable.
