Timing Cover: Service and Repair

Fig. 7 Crankshaft Sensor Adjustment:






1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove torque axis engine mount.
3. Remove serpentine belt.
4. Using pulling tool No. J38197, or equivalent, remove crankshaft pulley.
5. Remove crankshaft sensor shield, then oil pan to front cover attaching bolts.
6. Remove front cover attaching bolts, then the front cover.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Inspect timing chain for in and out movement, movement should not exceed 1 inch.
b. Check timing chain sprockets for any signs of wear.
c. Clean gasket mating surfaces at timing chain cover and cylinder block.
d. Apply sealant part No. 1052080, or equivalent, to bolt threads prior to installation.
e. Adjust crankshaft sensor using tool No. J37087, or equivalent, as shown in Fig. 7.
